Corrections
We try to get every fact right, and we check each story against its source before publishing it. When we make a mistake, we fix it quickly and say so.
How to report an error
Email editor@example.com with a link to the story and what you believe is wrong. If you have a document or record that shows the correct information, include it. We respond to every correction request, usually within one business day.
How we correct stories
- We fix the error in the story itself.
- We add a note at the bottom of the story saying what was wrong, what we changed and when. For example: "Correction, Nov. 5, 2026: An earlier version of this story gave the wrong date for the council vote. The vote is Nov. 10."
- We don't quietly delete errors. Fixing a typo or a broken link doesn't need a note. Fixing a fact does.
- If a mistake was in a Morning Brief email, the correction appears in the next day's email.
Every correction we've made is listed, newest first, in our Corrections log.
Updates
When a story changes because the news changed, such as a canceled weather warning or a meeting that was moved, we update it and say "Update" with the date and time.
Removing stories
We rarely remove published stories. We will consider removing or updating an old story about an arrest or charge that did not lead to a conviction. Email editor@example.com with the details.
